When should I install my eSIM?

Install your China eSIM at home, a few days before you fly. An unused eSIM is valid for 180 days from purchase.

Last reviewed October 2026

Install a few days before you fly, at home on Wi-Fi. You can sort out any problem calmly, not in an arrivals hall.

You will not lose trip days by installing early. The plan starts when your eSIM first connects to a network in mainland China, not when you buy or install it.

Wait until the trip is confirmed. Once you install an eSIM, it is no longer covered by the refund for uninstalled eSIMs. If you have not installed it, you can ask for a full refund within 30 days of purchase. See Refunds.

Install before the eSIM expires unused. An unused eSIM is valid for 180 days from purchase.

Already in China? You can still install, as long as you are on Wi-Fi.
