Compatible phones.
A haalaan eSIM needs a phone that supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. Use the checks below. A model name on this page is not a promise that every regional version will work.
Check for eSIM
Dial *#06# on the phone keypad. On many phones the screen shows an EID when eSIM is supported, along with the IMEI. The EID is the line to look for. If you do not see an EID, the phone may not support eSIM. This check does not guarantee that a plan will install.
- iPhone. Settings, then General, then About. An EID on that screen means the phone supports eSIM.
- Android. Settings, then Network and internet, then SIMs, or Connections, then SIM manager. An option to add an eSIM means that phone supports it. Menu names differ by brand.
Check that it is unlocked
The phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. A phone still on a payment plan may stay locked until that carrier unlocks it. On iPhone, open Settings, then General, then About. Under Carrier Lock, look for "No SIM restrictions." On Android, the lock status is often on the SIM or About phone screen, and the carrier can confirm it. A locked phone can refuse an eSIM even when the model usually supports one.
Models that often support eSIM
Lists change, and some regional versions differ. Confirm with the EID check. These models often support eSIM:
- iPhone. iPhone XS, iPhone XR, and newer, including iPhone SE (2nd generation) and later. iPhones sold for the mainland China market usually do not support eSIM, even when the same model does elsewhere.
- Google Pixel. Pixel 3 and newer. Some carrier and regional versions do not.
- Samsung Galaxy. Galaxy S20 and newer, and Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip models. Some regional and carrier versions do not support eSIM.
Other brands and older models vary. If the phone is not on this list, use the EID and unlock checks.
